Girls Camp!

I've just returned from a week at Girls Camp. It couldn't have been sweeter having 3 of my 6 daughters with me. I was asked to do programs this year and I thought I'd share one of my projects with you. Each year a theme is chosen- This year the theme was "We can do it, He Can Help." My first assignment was to turn this image...

Into an 8 foot tall backdrop. Fabric can be super expensive so I purchased a canvas painters dropcloth that measured 6 feet wide by 9 feet tall at Home Depot for $9.99. I printed a transparency of the image and used an overhead projector to trace the letters onto the canvas. I then used acrylic paint to fill them in. Here's the beginning of the painting... Here's the top all done...
Here's the completed background...
Now, you have to know your limits when someone asks you to do a project. I am not an artist- especially not a portrait artist. I knew I did not have the skills to paint the picture of the girl, so we had to call in the big guns. Laurie is an interior designer, portrait artist and member of our church. She agreed to paint the image of the girl and here's our completed backdrop hanging up in the camp lodge...She did an amazing job. It was fabulous spending a week with so many talented women who dedicated hundreds of hours to make this camp possible for our young women. I felt priviledge to be a part of this group. We arrived home just in time for Mr. Right and I to catch our early morning flight to Boston. I'm now enjoying the cool weather and plan to take in as many sights as we can. If you're in the Boston area or have visited and have some suggestions for B&B's, restaurants or sights, send me an email at kkbiggs@hotmail.com and let me know. We've got 9 days to see as much as we can. Love, Kelly.

  1. Feniul hall is a great place to stop by. It's near the Holocaust memorial, too. We also went to Harvard Square, which was just a really cool environment, and included some sites.

Also, if you have any interest at all in Salem, it's not far from Boston. There are several museums, including the Meritime Museum, Nathanial Hawthorn's home, and things centering on the Salem Witch Trials. I loved Salem!
