The Big Challenge Week 10

Week 10- only 5 more weeks to raise $4,000 to take the family to Florida! This week was fantastic! Ebay might have been a little slow, mostly because I didn't find many items to list, but craigslist made up for it. On ebay I had 13 items and 6 relists (I know, not much) Here were my top sellers...
Another pair of cherokee brand overalls. This pair of size medium sold for $9.99- They always seem to be a faithful item. This beautiful Ann Taylor Size 8 Black Silk Skirt sold for 8.00. Craigslist was over the top amazing this week.

I bought this bumbo for $5.00 at a yard sale and sold it for $15.00
This little tikes climb and slide was $10.00 this weekend and I sold it for $35.00

Remember the mantle that was $20.00 at a yard sale. I sold it to the sweetest lady for $80.00The top craigslist sell of the week, however, goes to the oak cabinet I paid $5 for at a yard sale. After some black paint and distressing, it sold this week for $195.00! I also sold a little bunny push carriage I've had for years for $20.00- Somehow the picture is MIA- But I paid $3 for it over 5 years ago at a yard sale. But the sweetest surprise of all was from Laura. Remember this table she gave me that I refinished and sold last week for $200?

I had planned to split the profits with Laura- who paid $50 for the table. This gave me $100 to add to the Florida total last week. Well this week I'll add another $100 as Laura wants me to keep the money. She is truly an amazing friend.

Because of the fantastic week we had we were able to purchase Tickets for our Flight and Pay for our Room. Bookit.com gave us a fantastic deal on the package. We will be staying at the Bahama Bay Resort in a 1700 square foot, 3 bedroom, 2 bath, full kitchen and laundry room Villa (For less than $100 a night) We adjusted our departure date a little so I actually have an extra week to earn more cash. You'll notice on next weeks post I'll say only 5 weeks to go (which is actually what I said this week-) I love hearing how so many of you have started selling on craigslist and ebay- Keep the stories coming. Love, Kelly.

Ebay Profits: This week: 66.23 Challenge Total: 1395.57
Craigslist Profits: This week 445.00 Challenge Total: 1670.00
This weeks Costs: 0.00 (clothes- I had a credit from returns) -17.38 (ebay fees) -7.03(paypal fees) -43.00 (Cost to buy craigslist items)
Total Challenge Costs: 856.42
Total Profit: $2209.15

We're over half way!

  1. Your blog has made me look around my house at what I can put up on ebay or craigslist. Not as fun a goal, though-- for me, it's just trying to get out of debt and take care of a few expenses we have coming up.

    Keep up the good work!

  3. I love that cabinet you redid! BEAUTIFUL!! When you paint furniture, do you seal it with anything?? I painted a end table and my paint is starting to chip. Any ideas to what I did wrong? Thanks for any advice/sugestions!

  4. You are almost there, congrats.

Well, I started looking around the house to see what I can put up for sale. I found a few clothes that I don't use anymore its' been in the closet for more than 2 years.

I am an Ebay member, but I never sold anything from Ebay at all. Yesterday was my first listing I'm planning on adding one item per day just to see, how it goes.

I will also check out Craiglist for bulk stuff.

  5. Katie,
I don't typically seal my furniture pieces with anything. If the paint is chipping (different then wearing off) you may not have had a good bond to start with. Priming is really important. If you have a piece that gets used a bunch like a dining table I would recommend a few coats of polyurethane- it's just a clear coat that should protect it a little more. Hope this helps.

  6. Kelly,
Thank you for the advice!! The end table does get used a lot so I will definitely try the polyerethane. Thanks again!

  7. I can't believe what you could get for that stuff. I've always been skeptical that people would want to buy my junk, but I guess they do! I'll have to give it a try. And thanks for the sweet comment on my blog. I'll have to check back for your craft room reveal!

  8. I love your blog and have secretly followed for a while. I am out now though and you officially your newest follower. You and Laura and great. I decided to give it a go and blogged about my first week. Who would have thought overalls were so hot? I learned that from My Dear Trash and my $0.99 GAP overall thrift store find sold for $43.00. I have given credit in my blog to My Dear Trash and encouraged others to check your site out. I am new to blogging, so I am building it one post at a time. I would love to have you check it out, but didn't know how to send you a link via email.
