Every once in while when I'm out shopping for trash, I'll find something like this:
A bumbo chair.
For $2.00, I can't pass it up.
Because I know I can list it for $20.00 on Craigslist.
Now, I know $18.00 isn't a huge profit, but I find the little things add up.
This headboard was $10.00. I later sold it on Craigslist for $30.00. Another little profit, but what if I sell a few more little things.
A little end table; paid $15.00, solid it for $40.00.
Purchase for $5.00, sold for $25.00.
I paid $5.00 for this beauty and solid it for $25.00 also.
These crates were $10.00 for the bunch. I sold each for $10.00, making the total sale $40.00. A $30.00 profit isn't too bad.
I paid $2.00 for this Pottery Barn lamp and sold it for $20.00.
This knee board was $5.00 and I sold it for $40.00.
This vintage suitcase was $6.00 and I sold it for $25.00.
This Brighton watch was $2.00 at a garage sale and it sold for $15.00.
Little things can sometimes add up.
Like spending an afternoon browsing art galleries in Scottsdale with my baby sister Anna
or eating BBQ on a summer's night
or wishing someone you love Happy Birthday.
"Make a wish!"
I've heard it's the little things that count, but when it's selling trash it takes on a whole new meaning.
Its great to see that this ebay thing hasnt totally cushed your love of trash selling. It is awesome that you still have several other venues to sell! I have been so intimidated to sell on craigslist but after this post I'm thinking of giving it another try! In fact I was thinking of blogging a story about that too! Come check it out at:

This is so true. I don't have the knack that you do and over here in Australia, bargains like the ones you find just don't seem to exist, but I do list occasionally on Ebay and also on another Aussie selling site and even though I may only make a couple of dollars profit on things, at the end of the month it is amazing how all those little sales add up. Sometimes it may only be $2.00 profit but I figure that is still $2.00 that I didn't have before, that is 2 litres of milk for my family that I didn't have to pay for.

ReplyDeleteI know that someday I will be able to get back into doing what I love most, hitting yard sales for fun and profit, but until then I live vicariously through amazing blogs like this.
I agree about the little things adding up. When you think about it that is a fantastic return on your investment. 10x! Try that with the stock market or your savings account lol - not going to happen.
ReplyDeleteWhile I'm dabbling in ebay again, I absolutely love craigslist. No ebay/paypal fees, no shipping fees, no feedback... the buyer gets to see & feel the item before buying and that makes for a happy customer.
ReplyDeleteWith electronics, I always have an extension cord handy so they can test the item before they buy. And I don't let them in my house, I have the item out and ready for them when they get here. You do have to be careful with strangers coming to your home, and if you get even a tiny inkling of that uncomfortable pit in your stomach, call it off or meet them in a public place.
