Week in Thrifting and Latest Dresser Re-do

It's been a great week thrifting.  I always find something I can't live without.
I'm really into owls, so when I found this huge "family of owls" vintage wall art for $6.99, I snatched it up.  I'm not sure where to put it yet.  As for now it leans against my fireplace.

Because of how Anthropologie and Pottery Barn stage there photo shoots, I'm always on the lookout for that something special when staging dressers.  These vintage horses are it!
The raw wood piece is hand-carved, signed and dated 1951.  The colorful wood horse, found last week while shopping Goodwill on date night looks to be from the same era and is hand-painted.  Eye-candy for me!

I really liked this Made in England vintage tin, with it's cute folk art.  I found it at Goodwill for $1.99.
I like to use things like this for Eden's hair clips or Reef's Lego's.

On dollar day, I found this cute faux Coco Chanel dress.  Mayer was certain the logo was DC, his favorite skateboarding brand.
I must say, they look an awful lot alike.

If this dress makes me a cool skater mom, DC it is!

My DC/Coco Chanel dress will be worn for project:USED at out next photo session.  I know a lot of you want to participate, so here's the thing.  When wearing a used dress, please hash tag #projectused when posting your photo on social media.  Also, you can link up to me on facebook under Laura Lofgreen, My Dear Trash and now, Project Used.  For updates on future on photo session, I will post them on my  blog and the project used facebook page .  Please follow project:USED on facebook and you can also follow me on instagram at lalalofgreen.  There's a lot of cool stuff coming up and I want as many people at our photo shoots as we can get.

And, last but not least, I also finished up another turquoise dresser (can't keep that color around for long) and I loved how it turned out.
When I found this XL piece at Deseret Industries, it was like reeling in a big fish.
I don't find many 78 inchers.

On a sad note, we've had a furniture death in the family.
Yes, this amazing armoire died on Thursday.
It was spectacular.

It only weighs about 200 pounds, so after the wedding (click here to read more about that) I left it on the patio until I could decide what to do with it.  We've had so many windy/blustery days here and wouldn't you know it, a gust of wind knocked it over.  It literally split and came apart.  Like Humpty Dumpty, I couldn't put it back together again.  I was just grateful no one was hurt because this thing was a beast.

QcumberZ and Weekend Trash

I made it down to Qcumberz this weekend and restocked the space.
I found this folding wood vintage easel while garaging last weekend.  It has a drawer for paints and brushes that sits behind the print.
Isn't she lovely.  The sketched fashion model art is from the thrift store.
What else did I find to take to the shop?
This gorgeous vintage dresser that I couldn't decide if I should keep or sell.  In the end, I didn't have any room for it in my house, so down to the shop it went.
Here's a better photo of it I took from home before I went down to Phoenix.
This end table/nightstand made it down there too.  Chandler says this is one of his favorite things I've ever painted.  He likes the futuristic look of it.  Does it remind you of Buzz Lightyear?
I paid $1.00 for these Anthropolgie bowls and measuring cups at a garage sale.
Here's a photo of the collection I found on-line.
The funky rock balls with the cool display stand was $5.00 at a garage sale.
The little light-up vintage owl and the vintage ballerina wall art were from the thrift store.
Here's a closer look because I heart owls.
Saturday was a lot of fun in blue jeans, but Sunday is the only day I dress up.
I think my trashy church outfit was worth the $11.00 I paid for it.

The skirt is from April Cornell and I paid $6.00 for it at a thrift store in Tucson.  These skirts run around $100.00.  The shirt is Tommy Hilfiger and it was $1.00 at Goodwill.  The shoes are J. Crew and were $4.00 at Mesa Thrift.  Eden's little dress is from The Children's Place and was $2.99 from Goodwill.  Chandler's $1.00 vintage tie was the only thing I found a few weeks ago while out garage selling.  I love that he already knows vintage means special and cool!
I hit one garage sell this weekend and I found Mayer something he's always asked for.  A Tony Hawk half-pike for his tech-decks.
What's great is after I paid $5.00 for all the skateboard ramps, the homeowner of the  garage sale looked through a big box of old toys and pulled out about 10 tech-decks, which she threw in for the same price.  One tech-deck is around $5.00, so this what such a sweet deal.
Eden played in her $25.00 thrift store play kitchen I found at Mesa Thrift.
Her little shirt, a Frances Elizabeth Original I found at Goodwill for $2.99 and is quite the show stopper.
Eden is serious about playing house. Notice she's using the lid top of a can of spray paint as a cup.  She's recycling so young!  That's my girl.
Speaking of playing house, the counselor picked apricots, plums and apples from the fruit trees.
As I sit here blogging, he's pitting the apricots for freezing.  He's a smoothie lover, that man!  The apples are for applesauce, applesauce cookies and a much-desired apple crisp.
How was your weekend.  Hope it was a great one.  Hugs!

What Did I Get With A Vanity?

I recently found this little cherry wood vanity at a yard sale.
The home owner was asking $10.00.  Next to the vanity was a brand new box of Halle Berry perfume.
"Would you throw in the perfume too?” I asked.

The homeowner agreed, so I had the vanity and Halle Berry perfume for $10.00.
The Halle Berry perfume sells for new around $30.00.  What a deal!

I came home and photographed the vanity.  I didn’t clean it or anything.  Remember, most of the time I’m an as-is kinda girl.  I posted the vanity on Craigslist for $40.00.  It sold the same day for $40.00.
So, what did I do with my $30.00 profit?

I found this darling owl out thrifting for $1.99.
I’ve been in love with this owl from Anthropologie,
but it’s $138.00.  I think the owl I found at the thrift store is cuter, plus mine is real vintage.

At Goodwill, I found Eden a boutique white linen Easter dress for $2.99.
I’m sure it was more then $2.99 when purchased new.  Funny thing, it looks brand new.  Not a spot on it.

I also found this Arcadia Italian leather bag.  I found out this bag retails for around $400.00 by clicking here.
I paid $7.99.  Score!  I’ve really wanted a huge leather loud bag, but haven’t been able to find one I could afford.  In the old days, I may have put a find like this on eBay, but I’m so happy to keep it all for myself.

I found this Stella McCartney Italian skirt at the thrift store for $2.50.
New, Stella McCartney skirts sell for a lot more then $2.50.  I’ve listed it on craigslist for $40.00 and I’ll let you know how it sells.  This is the first article of clothing I’ve tried to sell post-eBay saga.

I found these toll-painted red vintage clogs out thrifting for $3.00.  Can’t wait to take them down to the shop and list them for $24.50.
So far I’ve spent $18.50 of my $30.00 profit from the vanity.

Last, but not least, I found this gorgeous Foreign Accents rug for $12.00 while out thrifting and love it in the boys' room.
I did a little research and found the exact same rug for $998.00 here.  I couldn’t order one on the website if I wanted to because they are on backorder.  So glad I found mine at the thrift store.

So, I made a $30.00 profit off my vanity and spent it on trash that turned into over $1,000.00 of merchandise.
Taking trash to the next level, wouldn't you say.

What are your latest finds?

My favorite garage sale find? A wig box.

I haven’t been garage sale shopping for weeks and weeks.  With a husband who works most Saturdays, it’s a bit overwhelming to consider taking care of all 5 kids, let alone running around to garage sales.  When the weather cools and every community is having large rummage sales and just a run to the grocery store I'll encounter 20 yard sale signs along the way, it’s easy to see why Saturday mornings I go through shopping withdrawals.  So, this Saturday, with the counselor home, I asked if he’d watch the kids so I could go have some fun.
My first 20 minutes out, I found this crazy huge credenza for $10.00.  This beauty is 98 inches long.   I’m not certain if I’ll paint it or not, but I already listed it on craigslist.
I found Eden a Madame Alexandra doll of her very own for $10.00.
My favorite find was this vintage suitcase for $5.00.  I laughed out loud when I zipped it open.  It’s a wig box, mannequin and brush included.
This little dresser was $10.00.  I can't wait to paint it up, maybe a robin's egg blue.
The antique church pew was $20.00.  I think this will go down to the shop at QcumberZ.
Vintage tamborine?  Why not.  Teather ball new in box?  Why yes, thank you.  Vintage clock radio and game all $1.00 each.
Retro bar stool for $2.00.  Love it.
This chair with the original fabric is very Anthropologie and for $10.00, I'm certain I can flip it for a profit.

Note to self:  Never run into to Costco while the car is full of yard sale finds.  It got very crowded in here.
Shopping trash on Saturday was busy, so Eden and I took it easy Sunday morning, browsing the latest Anthropologie catalog.
I loved the great clothes, but Eden loved looking at the chicken and horses.
