Help painting a French Provincial dresser.

Painting furniture has turned into a passion of mine.  I used to purchase art paper and watercolor sea life and mermaids.  Here are a few of my favorites.
The more children I had, the less I painted.
But know, I've found furniture and it's my new expression.
Sometimes I paint white (this dresser was going in the dumpster when I rescued it)
or black.
Red and gray turned out cool.
Baby blue?
My personal favorite is always turquoise because the blue reminds me of the ocean.
But, this piece French provincial dresser, 81 inches long, I need your help.
Gorgeous, but I have had no interest in it at it's current 1970's colors.
What color should I paint it?  White?  Black? Something bolder?

  1. Pink! I can just see it being Victorian and girly looking.

  2. I was going to say pink...I saw one the other day like this that someone had done in a baby pink and it was SO sweet.

  3. The first thing I thought of before I saw the other comments was a pale pink!! That would be lovely in a shabby chic baby girl's room!!

  4. My goodness. Pink it is. I'm excited to try this out. It should be exciting.

  5. I am planning on painting a similar dresser in my girls' room. It is not real wood as it has that laminate finish on the top similar to what you have. At least it looks similar. Do you prime first and then paint? What will your process be? Thanks!

  6. Ahhh, the choice of pink is going to be so pretty. I just did a pink cabinet for someone, and then highlighted the distressed sanded areas in an ebony stain. It is a very pretty combination!

  7. If your pink is pale, you could paint the pop outs on the drawer a soft white and maybe a white wash over the entire piece. I can't wait to see the end product.

  8. Bad news, the dresser sold to a girl who wants to paint it herself, a creamy distressed warm yellow. Although I'm bummed I can't paint it myself, I have to admit it was a huge project in the undertaking and I'm happy to pass that along to someone else. She promised she'd send photos when she's done with it. Thanks for all your suggestions.
