Your Opinion Please...

A little over a year ago I re-decorated my entrance way.  You can read about all the details here, but this is the after shot...
I recently acquired this amazing buffet from a friend who picked it up at auction but didn't have a place for it in her home.  I am in LOVE with this piece!  However, I'm not sure I have a place for it in MY home.  Here's where the My Dear Trash readers come in.  I need your opinion.  Do I keep my current buffet or switch to this one?

Of course I'd be painting it black and putting it's beautiful hardware back on.  If you need to see more pictures of the my entrance way to get a feel for my style go here.  Just leave me a quick comment and let me know what you think or send me out an email if you're not set up to do comments:  kkbiggs@hotmail.com.  Can't wait to hear your opinions.  Love, Kelly.

  1. The new one for two reasons:
    1. It is longer than the mirror which would make the mirror look a little more like it belongs in the space.
    2. The space under the legs lends a lighter feel to it than the other buffet. It makes the space look a little less heavy and closed in.

  2. I really love the original version. WHen I saw the picture I thought to myself, oh she posted a picture from a magazine like Pottery Barn or something. But they both look great. I'll tell you what, if you don't end up using the additional piece, I would be interested in buying it as is.

  3. I vote for the old one. The new one is too tall and doesn't fit your wainscoting.

Long time reader/lurker! Love your blog!!

  5. Oh boy. That's a tough call because I love both of them and they each create a special 'look' all of their own. If I had to pick a favorite though it would be the spindle leg one that your friend found. That's an amazing piece! And, usually I'm all for freshening old furniture with paint, but the wood still looks beautiful. And, I think you'd be taking away some of it's charm by painting it.

  6. The original one does seem to have more storage. But I do like the new one better. It does seem "lighter" and not as bulky. Maybe it would open up the space a little.

  7. I like the new buffet; however, I think it is not substantial enough to take the large piece on the wall or the wainscoting. Honestly, I think the wall piece may be a little too large for either buffet.

Eww, I don't like being critical, even when it is constructive.

  8. This is a hard one. I do like the new buffet because it's pretty and airy. If you paint it black, it will still be "heavy" but less so than the piece in the first pic. And it's wider than the decorative piece. If you need the storage, stay with the first one. If you don't, I'd suggest the new one.

    Peace,
    Edie

  9. Although it's a hard decision to make I would choose the "new" buffet it's light and airy and you gotta love those legs!!

  10. Love the new one...but as it is now though, unpainted! It is a beautiful piece and I agree with Karen that it would definitely lose some of it's charm if it were painted. Not all pieces of furniture are meant to have a coat of paint on them. If the wood is in bad shape then I'd consider refinishing it as it appears to be beautiful, quality wood.

    1. Wanted to add that if you are determined to paint the new piece then I'm definitely voting for the old piece to stay ;) It will certainly offer more storage than the new one anyway.

  13. I like the storage in the one on the top - my first consideration!

  14. I love the old one best. I think that the lamp on the right hand side wouldn't look right with the new one because of the space under the legs (if you know what I mean lol). I adore the look you already have and I absolutely LOVE that lamp!!!! I really want to just reach into that picture and steal it lol, thats how much I love it!!
    Cheers

  16. Our styles are pretty different - I love the new buffet, I think the legs give it so much more lightness! But I wouldn't want to see it painted unless it was in bad shape. I'm kind of a fan of painting furniture if it *needs* doing, not because everything just *should* be painted. But that's totally personal preference.

I also like the wider dimension of the new one, I think it balances the piece hanging above it better.

  17. I think the current one is more substantial, and anchors the space. But how lovely would the buffet look in a creamy yellow?

  18. I like the lighter look of the new buffet--even in black it might be a more Spring-Summer look. But the old one is great too--but a heavier, Fall-winter look, in my opinion! You have some amazing finds! I love to see what's new that you're doing, and I LOVE the new side graphics on your blog here!

  19. The old one disappears into the dark, and makes the space dark and dreary.

A nice creamy light color on the new piece or old piece would perk the space up a lot.

  20. With what you have on the wall, I think the one you have there now looks best.

BUT...I really like the 2nd one, if you change what you have on the wall :)
