Handmade Nursery Mobile

If you'd like to see the Nursery Room Reveal go here. This is the tutorial for how we created the custom mobile. It started with many eight of these chandelier crystals Laura received free at a garage sale. Most were chipped, but that didn't matter.
This unique shape made the perfect centerpiece.
First, I took two of the teardrops, placed them back to back and held them together by stringing ribbon through the preexistent holes. Next came my favorite supplies. I went into Home depot and asked if they had any type of metal ring. I let them know it would need to hold a little bit of weight so they directed me to plumbing and handed me this...
Any guesses what it is? It's a stainless steel toilet flange! Seems a little tacky for a little girls nursery, but it gets the job done. (literally, I guess) It was less than $5. I also purchased 120lb cable that ran $2. Mr. Right then took these supplies to the local archery store (sometimes it pays to have a Mr. Right who's a hunter) And came back with the support system for the mobile. (Cost was $1) The little metal thingies that hold the cable together are called "Swedges" Some technical archery term.
In order to conceal the toilet flange I covered it with satin ribbon.
I then hot glued flower trim to the edge to tie it into the sconces I updated.
Here's the finished product! It really adds a nice sparkle to this little girls room. If you don't have chandelier pieces hanging around you can use this same support system to make any type of mobile. We chose to hang this at the end of the dresser ( something about hanging heavy glass over the crib didn't set well with Laura and Me) Hope you're enjoying those beautiful pictures of Baby Eden. She is so precious- just like her mom. Congratulations Laura. Love, Kelly
