I just watched my first episode and was intrigued. The series features Mike and Frank, childhood buddies, who are part sleuths, part antiques experts, and part cultural historians. Mike and Frank visit small towns across the country in search of weird and wonderful Americana. They comb through memorabilia and artifacts hoping to find treasures among the trash. Sometimes they make a few bucks; and sometimes they walk away with little more than the history of an item. With my recent estate sale experiences I feel a kinship with these two "pickers". Three weeks ago I spent the afternoon in a scorpion filled storage shed digging out antiques. I uncovered this bed, in pieces...
And then sold it for $150.00This wagon was upside down on a pile of lumber- It sold for $65.00 (A steal for someone, but it is missing the parts to one of the wheels)And these huge copper pots were uncovered in an attic we cleaned out- They sold for $125.00. Now that I've seen the show I realize there's actually a name for what I do... Picker. Picker? Most people might be uncomfortable wearing this label- I have to admit the word "Picker" meant something totally different when I was a school teacher- But now, with the help of Mike and Frank, I find it endearing. We pick through what other people may see as trash, hoping to find a treasure. So there you have it, I'm a PICKER! and to celebrate my new found title My Dear Trash is teaming up with American Pickers for a fabulous give-a-way- The complete Season One on DVD! We have not one, but TWO copies to give-a-way to two lucky readers of My Dear Trash.

Are you a Picker?
I follow your blog on my google reader and I watch American Pickers all the time. I love the newest one where Danielle gets to "finally" go on a pick with Mike.
ReplyDeleteI follow on facebook. I love to watch Pickers! I just watched one the other night where they sold some carnival side show canvas posters for about $10K then went back and gave the guy half of the money so he could get his carnival opened up.
ReplyDeleteI love your blog & my husband is a big fan of Pickers! Thanks so much for all the inspiration.
ReplyDeleteI check your blog every single day and I definatly like you guys on Facebook. :) So far, I have only been able to catch bits and pieces of American Pickers on tv but it looks really interesting. I love to see what treasures are just laying around in someones garages and how much money they are worth.
ReplyDeleteI'm a follower and I really like the "Pickers" show!

I'm a follower and I LOVE American Pickers! It's one of the few shows that my husband and I enjoy equally & can watch together. The guys are hilarious. And, I also really liked the episode where they finally let Danielle go on a pick. I definitely think Danielle needs more 'air time'.
ReplyDeleteI'm a follower and I have to say better a trash picker than a nose picker! Heehee. I love to watch American Pickers and long for the day when my kids are grown and I can search for treasured trash items across the country!
ReplyDeleteI have not peaked in on you for a while. Your neighbor gifts were ADORABLE!!! You have such an FUN BLOG! What a great creative mother you are! Merry Christmas!!
ReplyDeleteI'm a PICKER all the way...probably how I stumbled upon your blog...I also "like" you on FB ;). I don't have cable but I did catch a snippet of American Pickers online where they visited an old farm and found a metal gas station sign...it sold for some big bucks. Pretty impressive what "trash" goes for these days. Take care ladies and keep the inspiration coming.
ReplyDeleteI am a huge fan of this show - not only because of what they do but I love that they LOVE what they do! How many people can say that?
ReplyDeleteI am a follower of your blog
I "Like" you on FB!
PS...do I get an extra entry for this? ... You're blogspot address is misspelled on your FB fan page so it leads to nowhere. I believe it says "blopspot."
ReplyDeleteYou might want to fix that! :)
I check your blog often, but just started following. I LOVE American Pickers. My aunt is a picker and I've been on shopping trips with her, so the show interested me right away. Plus, Mike is nice to look at!
ReplyDeleteI am following! My son loves the show, I am just a little creeped out by those 2:)
ReplyDeleteI love American Pickers and all their finds! I love your blog too! I can't wait for Trash to Cash Wednesday each week. I'm a follower and also follow on Facebook.
ReplyDeleteI follow you on your blog and facebook.
ReplyDeleteMy husband and I watch the pickers. We LOVE them. As for being a picker, I wouldn't call myself one, I haven't made it to that level as of yet. But I'd sure love to one day.
We watch American Pickers often and enjoy it alot. Amazed at what they find. I am a picker wanna be but just don't know if I could knock on someones door and ask to look around. I will continue to pick at garage sales, auction sales, estate sales, and Goodwill. I am a follower of your blog and Facebook.
ReplyDeleteWe started watching this fall. My hubby LOVES this show. He's a wannabe picker.
ReplyDeleteI just saw my first few episodes this past week and I'm HOOKED! I was home for the holidays and bored. My brother was watching an episode and I started watching with him and LOVED it.
ReplyDeleteI must say I love your blog. I've missed reading it over the past few months. I am a huge fan of the show American Pickers. We don't have cable, so have only seen American Pickers a few times when we have been traveling (and watching evening TV at the motel).
ReplyDeleteWe found it very interesting. It would be fun to see a whole season of American Pickers. BTW - my husband used to be a kind of "picker" years ago when he would go to yard sales, but most of his findings remained in our house.
I'm a new follower (over from Market Yourself Monday) and I love American Pickers! I loved the episode where they went room to room in this underground tunnel of sorts. I love living vicariously through them. :) Thanks for the opportunity to win!
ReplyDeleteHello! I'm a follower and a ebayer thanks to your blog! I have never seen this show but it sounds AMAZING!
ReplyDeleteI am a new follower.
ReplyDeleteI love this show and watch it with my husband.
The guys crack me up and make me want to be a picker. I could probablly start in my own basement!
I wonder sometimes if it is worth how far they drive to pick and they seem not to make too much.
I would also love to see how the sales go- like on ebay or one of their auctions or in their store.
Just found you through a link on knock off decor, love your site and am now a follower. The hubs and I have become totally hooked on American Pickers and now have the kids even watching. Hubs was so excited to see the show a few weeks back when they were picking in his hometown and he started recognizing some of the landmarks of the area. Definitely a favorite of ours.
ReplyDeleteI love your site AND Pickers! It's fascinating what kind of stuff is out there. Unfortunately, my garage is starting to look like prime picking -- I need to DO something with all my finds...
ReplyDeleteIm a google follower, and I love to pick! This show is awesome Wish I had cable but I did see some of the first episodes and one recently that the girl got to go picking it was awesome!
ReplyDeleteI am both a google follower and a facebook follower. I love American Pickers and am often amazed to see them come through my neck of the woods, I'd love to run into them someday!
ReplyDeleteLove your blog and recommend it to my newbie Ebaying friends when they want more advice than I have enough time to give. :) I'm a 2 year Ebayer who loves it and just finished listing another 20 items tonight! When I go home to visit my inlaws we sit up late and watch back to backs of American Pickers, but our favorite is their savvy nephew. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the inspiration!
Kim
I love American Pickers. Just watched an episode. I love all the old stuff they come up with. Even my teenage sons like the show. We'd love to win the series. I'm a follower! (: Where do you come up with places to "pick"? Now that would be a fun way to spend an afternoon!
ReplyDeleteYou certainly have an eye for great finds!
ReplyDeleteMe and my Husband were recently introduce to the American Pickers show and we LOVE IT. My husband says that's his dream job! I am a follower and if I win one of the copies I think I'll give it to my husband as a valentines day gift lol!
Love this show!
