Put a Bird on it - Part II

The bird thing has taken over my house.
That’s karma, isn’t it.
More often then not, when I’m out looking for specific trash, I usually find what I want.
I want birds.
I want owls.
For .50 cents, how can I go wrong with a hand-painted ceramic owl?
Have birds and owls always been there and I didn’t see them?
It’s like when I was pregnant with my first child.  I remember every where I went I saw pregnant woman.  All of a sudden it seemed like everyone was pregnant.  Was this a new phenomenon or was it because I was more aware?
I find this amazing velvet-covered vintage clover.  Yes, that’s the scene of an Irish pub on the front, cobblestone and all.
A few days later, I find this owl dish towel hanger.
No, I don’t want to hang a towel on this.
I just want the owl
In my Irish pub.
I love this for St. Patrick’s Day.  I’ll hang it on my front door.
I find a bird cage
and more birds inside.
The plastic grapes are a nice touch, don't you think?  I've got big plans for this beauty.  It's called heirloom white spray paint, vintage jewelry and NO plastic grapes.
So, here's the question.  What if I put a bird on anything I find?
Does it make the piece more valuable?
More treasured?
Can it make for a better re-sell?
A Boscoware Belgium Cast Iron Pot?
An old wood crate?
My $1.00 cheese dome?
The constitution of the United States of America?
I see the potential.
Maybe I should be putting birds on all my trash.
A retro cabinet hutch?
A vintage desk?
My Crouse-Hinds Walk/Don't Walk Urban Light Post?
A retro lamp shade?
Man, this bird thing could be huge.  It really brings trash to life.  I'll let you know if I see an increase in my profits.
Or maybe, I'm just mocking it.
I'll never tell (hee, hee, hee)!

Sometimes You Fall In Love

It was 9:30am on a Friday.  After taking the baby to the doctor for double ear infections, Mr. Right and I had gotten a very late start to our garage sale day.  We pull up to the first house and there it is...

"I have to have that birdcage!"  I jump out of the car to see a $10 price tag.  I'm amazed!  It's 9:30, all the good deals should be gone by now, right?  Even though I think it's a great price, I still try to negotiate.  "Will you take $5 for the birdcage?"  "No, it's my brothers and $10 is the lowest he'll go."  I'm reminded that their must be a published book about having garage sales that says, "if you don't want to negotiate on your prices, just say the item belongs to some random family member and that they live in some foreign part of the country so you wouldn't be able to contact them to lower the price."  because I hear this response quite often.  But, regardless of non-negotiation, I have to have it, I'm in love.  So I shell out the 10 big ones and Mr. Right packs it in the car.  After a few lonely weeks in the garage I finally had the chance to paint it with my favorite Rustoleum heirloom white and then added a little Ralph Lauren faux technique, smoke, to age it.  I love the way it turned out.  Here it's pictured with my latest finds over the past month or so.  Mr. Right did a little photo shoot this weekend so I had him take a big family pic of all my latest acquisitions.  I'll be posting some before pics, as well as the prices I paid, all week.

Now, the hardest part is finding a place for all my new lovelies!  Happy Garaging.  Love, Kelly
