Tween Room: Bedding on a Budget!

So here's the before (again) of my tween's bedding. I know it's hard to see with all the "accessories" she had laying around- but you get the jist of the design. We found the bright striped sheets and duvet set on clearance at Target- Not a bad deal since we've had it for five years and it cost less than $50, but I love the new set. So here's the after...

The sheets (which you probably can only see a tiny bit of the pillowcase) are a black on black stripe (hence the reason I loved that the chandelier cord was striped) The sheets were the most expensive item in the room- because I refuse to buy them used. I paid $50. However, the bedding was a $10 find at a garage sale. Before you say "Gross! Who buys bedding at a yard sale?" Let me tell you- they were new. Ten bucks for a new queen sized quilt and two shams. The feather pillows were also new (same garage sale) and were just $2.00 each! I love the way it all turned out (not that the bed gets made any more often- but when it's made it looks great) The lamp on the side table was also a garage sale find. The base was $2.00 and the shade was actually from a different garage sale and was part of a $10 lamp. I've got another 3 or 4 projects to share in this room- Can't wait to see what you think. Stay tuned. Love, Kelly.

To see more before's, the wall treatment and chandelier go here and here.

  2. I LOVE it. Black is one of my favorite colors.
    I adore her bed.

I buy all my sheets & pillow cases at thrift stores. I look them over with a fine tooth comb as they say. Check the corners on the fitted sheets for the elastic tightness. I bleach the dickens out of them on two wash cycles.
I LOVE did I say LOVE, vintage sheets and pillowcases. Plus the sheets and cases are much softer than new sheets and no ironing (can I hear an AMEN?)
I can pick them up at my fave thriftshop for .50 a case and 1.50 a sheet. I've never found a nice vintage sheet or case at Goodwill as of yet.
LOVE your daughters room. I had to laugh when you mentioned her accessories in the room. My 19 yr old as accessories just the same ;-)
