The Ugly Credenza

It was so ugly, I almost didn’t buy it.

Dirty, chipped, dented and just plain old ugly.
76 inches long, weighing in at over 100 pounds.

Gold velvet padded drawers that smelled just as ugly.

Still, there was something about it.

It was solid wood, heavy and well built.

The fixtures?  

It was a love/hate relationship.  Brass?  Really?

But the price was right.

$35.00.

Sold.

Most of the time, I flip furniture without doing much of anything to it, but this piece.

I didn’t feel confident I could resale this beast as-is for much more then I purchased it for.

I thought I'd do a little experiment.  

I've been wanting to be bold with paint, you know, take risks with color, so I choose the brightest vintage blue I could find.  For a $35.00 investment, I knew I could take a chance.

I started with sanding.

Sanding a piece of furniture is such therapy.

The kids played in the driveway while I work.

Next, I paint the drawers

and the frame.

It's like a naked skeleton at this point, but I was starting to feel hopeful.

My favorite part is distressing and staining.  It's like adding make-up.

I listed it on Craigslist for $200.00 and it sold in less then 24 hours.
Let this be a warning to all ugly cheap furniture.
I will find you.
I will make you a new look and you will be worth more then you ever thought possible.
I can't wait to do this again.
