Guest Room Update

A big thank you to all the recent followers- we've been able to add almost 20 new readers in 2 days. Please encourage your friends to follow- Laura will be home Saturday and I'd love to get to 1,000- I also can't wait for the giveaway- I was nervous our readers might think we were stalker types, but your comments have calmed my fears! I'd love to meet you and spend a weekend trashing. Here's a peek at the guest room you can stay in...

Last week I took this picture to show you the "new" bedding I picked up for the guest room.
I think I mentioned that I didn't love it- $25 from a garage sale, but it was a king and our guest bed is a queen. In the picture this side looks good, but the other side is dragging the ground- and the pillow shams were too wide to fit side by side on the bed. What's a girl to do but list it on craigslist. A few days later it sold for $50! I took my $50 and went to Target. For $59 I was able to get a new comforter, bedskirt, 2 shams, 2 euro shams and 2 decorative pillows. Throw in some new paint and here's the (almost) finished look...
My $22.50 copper foot table looks great as a nightstand (looks like I'll be hanging on to this one)
Here's the almost finished part...
I've got this great frame- but I'm not sure what to do with it. I don't want to put family pictures in the guest room- I thought of removing all the matting and doing a quote? Help! Let me know what you would do with it- do you have a great quote for a guest room? or a completely different idea? My daughter's coming home from college for the weekend and I'd like to have it all done. No pressure! You guys are the best. Love, Kelly.

  2. Your new bedding is fabulous. I love the new paint color also. How fun. I like the chalkboard idea, then you can personalize it to whoever is visiting the room. Hugs, Marty

  3. Love all your recent posts, Kelly.

    Your new bedding is awesome.

I also like the idea of a chalkboard so you can list activities, "welcome, Daughter" or whatever for guests.

You aren't going to paint the gorgeous frame, right?

This may sound crazy, but you could just put a pretty cream matting and a gold pen, and your guests could leave comments in the "guestbook" just as if they were staying at a B&B.

Let us know what you do!

PS: received the cute little stars. thanks!

  4. The chalkboard idea is cute, however, I have used the collage frames and put different letters in them to spell out messages. Turned horizontally, you have 5, 3, 5 - you could find three words that fit, or one word thats 13 letters or two words with a center space or symbol... lots of possibilities. Like the chalkboard, it could be changed frequently or seasonally to meet your needs. I like projects that remain fluid - probably why so many of mine are unfinished...

  6. Great job, the room looks great. I would put a quote in the frame. I like this one for a guest room:
    Guest
You are welcome here, be at your ease
Get up when you're ready, go to bed when you please.
Happy to share with you, such as we got
The leaks in the roof, the soup in the pot.
You don't have to thank us or laugh at our jokes
    Sit deep and come often
    You're one of the folks.

  7. Oh yes, MUCH better on the bedding there. And I love that you were able to make a $25.00 profit on the other bedding. Amazes me every time. I'd take the matting out and do a quote or some vinyl design. And I'd paint the frame too.
