Saying Goodbye

This little Dog found our family 3 years ago this past October. She was matted, with sticks and debris caught in her overgrown fur. From the looks of her paws she had traveled quite a distance to arrive at our front door. I took her inside and gave her a bath, in hopes of cleaning her up for a "found dog" photo shoot. With it being just the day before Halloween, I decided it was a little risky to put up a picture of a found dog. The next morning I took her to the vet to see if she had a chip and to have her checked out. There was no chip and the vet said she was about 10 months old and a terrier mix. The vet also explained that our neighborhood is a bit of a hot spot for animal owners to dump their pets when they move, because we live in the type of neighborhood where the finder is likely to take care of the pet. After listing our found dog with all the online sources I then took her to the groomer to get cleaned up. I'll never forget when I returned to pick her up. She had a little pink bow and I almost didn't recognize her. She was adorable. Needless to say, I had bonded with this little dog. As one last attempt to find her home, we took her door to door with us on Halloween night, asking friends and neighbors if they recognized her. When the owner wasn't found our family decided to call her "Boo" (she's white and was found near Halloween- no brainer) and we kept her. Being in a home with six girls Boo always had something to do...
Here's our baby taking her for a walk. This little dog has become a part of our family. Well, tonight she was hit by a car and we had to put her down. As difficult as this decision was, we are so grateful for the good memories we have of our Boo. I hope you don't feel it inappropriate that I share this on our blog. I keep remembering how this little dog stayed in bed with me when I was sick for 3 days, how she barked if anyone she didn't know came near me and how she loved to lay in the sun while I'd work outside on my projects. Somehow sharing how special she was in our lives, makes losing her hurt a little less. Between the tears there was laughter as I uncovered this picture of Boo in my iphoto folder...
I'm not sure who staged this photo, I had never seen it before, but It reminded me how much fun we've had with this sweet little dog. Boo I will miss you. Love, Kelly.

  8. This hits close to home for me because Sweet Boo looks exactly like my Sweet Charleston, and he is the apple of my eye. I'm sorry for your loss. Boo was lucky to have been a part of your loving family and your family was lucky to have had her be a member of the pack.

  13. Kelly:

So sorry for you and your family, but how wonderful that you enriched each others lives!!!

And how appropriate on a "my dear trash" website, someone else's "trash" because your treasure. It's beautiful.

  15. Sorry to hear this. I saw that she was at the vet after being hit by a car on Bailee's FB page, but it didn't say wether or not she had passed away at that time. It's hard to lose a pet, they're like family :(

  16. Very sorry to hear about your loss.

Losing a pet is never easy. Any dog I have owned is a part of my family not just a dog.

It sounds like you gave Boo a great life. And that is what you have to remember in times like these.

  17. I'm sorry. Losing a pet is losing a family member in my opinion. We still mourn our Golden Retriever who died over a year ago. Here's a link to my story about him from last January
