Mermaid Tears

Mr. Right and I absolutely fell in love with the little town of Rockport, MA. Here's a reminder of how beautiful it is...When traveling, we always like to find a special souvenir so we can remember our trip. On our first trip to New York we purchased a pair of small binoculars so we could see from our nose bleed seats at our broadway performances. These binoculars have now accompanied us to more than 50 broadway shows we've seen since that first visit. In Scotland we purchased a beautiful wool blanket, In Paris, vintage inspired paper masks, and the list goes on. When browsing the quaint little shops of Rockport we looked at artwork, cast iron mermaids, beach signs and lobster traps. But this time our souvenir was completely free- well, we did have to put in a little work. Our special souvenir from Rockport, MA is Mermaid Tears, also known as sea glass...

Sea glass is glass found on beaches that has been tumbled and smoothed by the waves, water and sand. The effect is just beautiful
.
As you walk along the beach you'll see it sparkle as the sun's rays catch its' surface. The clear pieces look just like ice cubes melting into the sand. Mr. Right and I spent hours combing the beach for Mermaid tears. It almost became a competition to see who could find a bigger piece, or a more unusual color. This is one of my favorite souvenirs from all of our travels. Is it because it was free? (You know I love a bargain) Although that was a nice perk, what I really love, is that it reminds me of the few days where all Mr. Right and I had to worry about was nothing more than who would find the next Mermaid tear. When I look at my little jar of tears I'll remember the precious moments we spent together on the beach in Rockport.

Now, for those of you who love the details, here's how I printed my Rockport tag:

Rockport and Aug. 2010 is in "copperplate" font, Mermaid Tears is "A Yummy Apology" font (you can download both of these for free from the internet) To print on the tag, just design your label and print on regular paper. Then tape the tag over the printed words (put tape all the way across the top and bottom of the tag- but be careful not to place tape where the ink will print) run paper through the printer a second time. Love, Kelly

  5. Love sea glass! Especially the way yoiu've displayed it. we used to live in Kodiak Alaska. There was a beach called Jewel Beach. It ALWAYS had tons of sea glass on it, and yes when the sun hit them they sparkled..hence it's name. Wish I had brought more with us when we moved. Now we hunt for it in Monterey along the beaches...when we can get there ;)
    Thanks for the memories ☺☺
