Hope Chest Redo for Nursery

Laura picked up this amazing hope chest for just $40.00. It almost became a victim to craigslist before we realized we could use it in the nursery.First step? Take it all apart and get ready to prime. When I remove the upholstered board from the top I discover I might not need to recover this at all! Can you see what's peeking out from under the vintage rust fabric?
Tiger Print! Do you think it's too much for a little girl's nursery? I do, so I keep pulling staples.
How about this waverly floral print? Or maybe we should just strip her down.
9 million staples later- here she is!
If you think I'm kidding about the number of staples I removed, just check out all these little holes.
It might have even been 10 million!
Here she is all apart and primed. Remember... Sand, sand, sand!
Here's the feet getting a nice little pedicure. Those little stickers are marked $5.00 each for these feet. How funny that the feet cost $20 and Laura only paid $40 for the whole thing.
Here's the top getting reupholstered. Favorite tool for this is the staple gun. Can you see how cute the fabric is for the nursery? Here she is all finished...
Just a little distressing to match her up to the two dressers I previously finished.
Look at the great storage this will give Laura. I obviously didn't paint the inside as it was cedar lined.
What a fun piece this was to work on. I'm scheduled to get into the nursery for some major painting tomorrow, so wish me luck. Love, Kelly

  17. That's very cute, but please be careful when using it in a nursery or around children -- many old hope chests have a lock that can trap kids inside -- there have been several suffocation deaths of children who climbed in a hope chest to hide and couldn't get back out. If it's an actual Lane brand, there's a recall and they will send you a new lock - see here: http://www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/prerel/prhtml96/96186.html

Good luck & nice job on the chest!
